Today's Air Force Times said there would be flight pay, but no bonus. But you'll get a deployment, I guess that's worth something. It confirmed that the returning aviators would be ineligible for promotions.

If they don't want anyone to get in the promotion soup, they could just hire back the aviators as civil service. They don't get ACP, but they do have the potential to get promotions and pay raises for their service. It would be better so that the squadron commanders don't have to have a dozen Lt Colonels working for them that outrank them.

I think the Air Force is the only service that tolerates that breach of military etiquette.

What no Bonus? No Flight Pay? And they want to deploy me?

Right now I have a pretty good job...took me awhile to get here not to mention the pain I went through. I'm not sure I want to go through that again...the re-competing at the end of 2-4 years when the AF is through with me.

As Chuck said, what's my incentive to go through that again?

There is so much buzz on our regular email concerning this, I thought it would be nice to have a place to make some group comments.

So, are they serious?

"Come on back with no promotion eligibility--just like before."

If I was the A2, I would have at least offered all retired majors an immediate promotion to Lt Colonel, and all retired captains an immediate promotion to major with an eligibility to compete for Lt Colonel when the time came. Assuming those retired folks met the manning targets I was trying to fill.

The promotions could even be temporary until you complete the 36 months of required service. At least then there would be a little in it for the crewdawg.

But that's not the deal.
